Protesting can either be a peaceful act or a very messy one. Once violations are made violating the first amendment thats when you are no longer protected by your rights.
-example: destruction to private property.
Expressive action is when actions are protected but when they are not expressed they are unprotected which means laws are broken and violations are made.
speech- protected
action- unprotected --> expressive action becomes protected
State action doctrine- a legal principle that the Fourteenth Amendment applies only to state and local governments, it does not apply to private entities. When under state action doctrine, private parties outside of government don't have to comply with procedural or substantive due process under the 14th Amendment
